What's it really like?

Southern India is green, lush and captivating, and home to the hospitable, friendly and always smiling local people. The South India tour will take you on a path less travelled, through scenic nature, colourful temple towns, multiple world heritage sites and palm-fringed Kerala backwaters. During our 13-day journey from Chennai to Cochin, we will also visit the culture-rich towns of Pondicherry, Tanjore and Madurai, and experience the striking wildlife of Periyar National park.

Day 1

Arrive in Chennai

Arrive in Chennai, the capital of the Tamil Nadu state on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. Check into your hotel. We are happy to organize airport pickups if needed.

In Chennai visit the St. George Fort, St. Thomas Mount, San Thome Cathedral, Kapaleeswar Temple and the National Art Gallery.

Day 3


After breakfast drive to the historic seaport town of Mahabalipuram, where we will take a tour of the Shore Temple overlooking the Bay of Bengal, The Five Raths, The Arjuna's Penance and the rock-cut Tiger cave temple complex, all part of the UNESCO Wolrd Heritage site.

Day 4


Arrive in Pondicherry around mid-day. During the day, we will visit the spiritual community of Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville. Auroville or the City of Dawn is an experimental international township, which envisions the idea of spirituality, celebrated human unity, peace and progressive harmony.

Day 5


After checking in to our hotel in Tanjore in the afternoon, visit the Brihadeeswarar temple – one of the largest temples in India, and its most praised architectural glories.

Day 6


On our way to Madurai visit the bustling Thiruchirapalli (Trichy). Trichy boasts busy bazaars and historic temples, and crowded streets. Visit Rock Fort, Sri Ranganathaswamy and Jambukeshwara Temples. Arrive at Madurai in the evening and check-in to your hotel.

Day 7


Our Madurai sightseeing tour for the day includes the Mariamman Teppakulam and the 17th century Palace of Tirumalai Nayak. In the evening, revisit the Meenakshi Temple for a prayer ceremony.

Around mid-day arrive in the picturesque town of Thekkady, located in the Periyar National Park. We will then enjoy the exciting sights and aromas of the Spice Plantation Tour with a local guide.

Day 9


In the morning proceed to Periyar National Park. The Park and the Tiger Reserve are one of the most captivating wildlife parks in the world. Since boat travel is the only means of transport in the park, large areas can be covered in a short time. After the boat ride we will return to our hotel and take off for Kumarakom. Kumarakom is Kerala’s heartland of lagoons, palm-fringed lakes, and paddy fields, inter-linked with hundreds of winding canals, with the typical low-slung country boats that carry everything from people to fish, rice and coconuts to the milkman and local politicians.

Board the comfortable houseboat to Alleppey after breakfast. Enjoy the magical houseboat ride and the breathtaking views of the untouched and otherwise inaccessible rural Kerala. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay on the houseboat.

After having breakfast on the houseboat, we will leave for Cochin. After arrival, check in at the hotel.


Day 12


Half-day Sightseeing tour of Cochin visiting the Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese. Continue to visit Jewish Synagogue located in the Jew Town quarter of Old Cochin. We will also see the Chinese Fishing Nets that line the seafront and exhibit a mechanical method of catching fish by local fishermen in Fort Kochi. Return to your hotel after the sightseeing tour.

Physical Activity

1 (Easy) - These tours are suitable for everyone and include a decent amount of walking.

2 (Medium) - These tours are suitable for everyone and include day hikes on various terrain, which are normally not mandatory.

3 (Hard) - These tours are suitable for people with an average fitness level and include day hikes and treks to various places, which are a mandatory part of the program.

4 (Very hard) -These tours are suitable for people with an intermediate level of fitness and include challenging treks on various terrain.

5 (Extreme) - These tours are suitable for people who are looking for some serious challenges. Have a good look at the program and do some research before committing to one of these tours.

None of the tours on include international flights to/from the destination, travel insurance (mandatory), visas if necessary, gratuities to local staff, personal expenses, optional activities or airport transfers (if not stated otherwise).

Tour Cost and Group Size

The final cost of the tour is determined 45 days before departure when the group is automatically closed. Until that point, in case of vacancies, it is possible to join the group and, therefore, lower the cost for everyone.

The maximum group size is always noted in the pricing scheme on the tour page. Please note that all of our tours are guaranteed from two travelers.

Our pricing scheme applies to private groups as well and no extra charge is applicable. The maximum group size, however, stays the same as stated in the pricing scheme.

In case of high altitude trekking, please consult your doctor before making a booking. It is important to us and in regards to everyone’s safety that every group member is fit to take on the challenge.

In some cases, is allowed to require a doctor’s note from the client that states their ability to take part in a tour with high physical activity level.


It is advisable to check the weather forecast of your destination a few days prior to departure.


Our and our local partners’ goal is to make everything go without any problems. However, sometimes the odds may not be in our favor and something may happen.

In case of problems on the road, please notify your tour guide first. It is important to give the local provider a chance to make things right.
